At the beginning of each year, St Johns chooses a charity that is close to our hearts to support and fundraise for. This year, in partnership with AMS Ltd, we are proud to be supporting Leeds Mind.
In 2018, St Johns supported Leeds Mind by fundraising and raising awareness of the services they provide. Through hard work, dedication and the support of the customers and tenants, we were able to raise £3,809! We are so incredibly proud of everyone who got involved and grateful to all those who sponsored our events. In 2019, we are excited to be continuing our partnership with Leeds Mind and we hope you’ll join us on the journey to ending the stigma surrounding mental health.
Mind is one of the largest charities focused on helping those struggling with mental health issues and promotes positive mental health and wellbeing. Not only this but they are working towards ending the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide.
We have chosen Leeds Mind because of the alarming statistics surrounding mental health throughout the UK. We have all personally experienced the impact that negative mental health can have not only on those around you but also on your own wellbeing.
Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem at some point within their lives. Whether that is depression, anxiety, stress, self-harm, personality disorder, eating disorder, bereavement or any other negative mental health experience.
Approximately 1 in 8 adults with a mental health problem are currently receiving treatment and suicide is currently the single biggest killer in men under 45 in the UK.
The likelihood of someone we love and care about facing any one of these issues is high. We wouldn’t want to think that they were facing it alone and by supporting Mind and fundraising to aid their services, we feel that we could help make a positive impact on mental health and the awareness of the services available.
Throughout the year, we will be hosting fundraising events in the centre, running awareness campaigns on social media and also undergoing a challenge, where the team will be completing a 12km obstacle course through mud and water. We will be updating you on everything that we’re doing so we hope you will support us and follow our efforts on Facebook, Instagram and within the centre.
If our hard work and the funds we raise could help just one person struggling or even help to prevent a suicide, we feel that we could say that we are taking steps in the right direction.
We hope that you will help us to support such an incredible cause.
